New “Camp EdwardsChild Development Center

A group of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, residents and community leaders swarmed into PCC’s new 7,240 square-foot child development center on Tuesday, November 11, 2010.  The new center, named in honor of the late Ernest “Camp” Edwards, is attached to Presbyterian Community Center, allowing better coordination of services for residents of the Smoketown and Shelby Park neighborhoods, from babies to senior citizens.

The ribbon cutting ceremony featured children marching from PCC’s old center at 600 Lampton Street to the new one at 701 South Hancock.  During the ceremony hundreds of balloons were released signifying the opportunity for the children to soar.  Participating in the celebration were Mayor Jerry Abramson, Councilman David Tandy, State Representative Darryl Owens and a host of other dignitaries.
